Just as the free health care is provided to every citizen, the country also offers free education from kindergarten to college. The colleges and Universities from Canada and the United States have been opening satellite campuses in the country at Education City in Qatar, including the Carnegie Mellon University, Weill Medical College, Texas A&M University, Virginia Commonwealth University, College of North Atlantic Qatar and Texas A&M University.
Other educational centers in Qatar, other than at the Education City are:
Academic Bridge Program - A center which offers a university preparatory program, that aims to equip top caliber secondary school graduates for admission to degree programs.
The Learning Center – A school meant for average and above average students who have experienced academic problems. It assists students to develop compensatory skills for individual learning differences.
Qatar Academy - Comprises both primary and senior school for international education for boys and girls from pre-school level to university entrance. The Qatar Academy is accredited by US based New England Association of Schools and Colleges, and also the Europe based Council of International Schools.
Schools in Qatar
The primary and secondary education in Qatar is controlled by The Supreme Education Council and The Ministry of Education. The Supreme Education Council is gradually taking over from the Ministry of Education, and is establishing privately managed independent schools.
Many of the schools have better resources and equipment when compared to the Schools by the Ministry of Education, which also suffer from problems of indiscipline. The independent schools teach both Arabic and English. The Supreme Education Council is investing heavily in its teachers, and plans to switch over to English completely, in the coming years.
The private schools attract most expatriate children, and Qatar offers good choice and value for the money when it comes to education.
