Pilates a great workout for your mind and body

mindRecently researching on mind body connection I came across term Pilates. What is pilates anyway? In Globeandmail.com article Pilates is a series of exercises originally created by Joseph Pilates (1883-1967) to develop strength, mobility, core control, alignment and postural awareness. Exercises are done on machines, including the Reformer, and a mat. According to the Body Harmonics website, Pilates is the “thinking person’s” mode of training; one leaves “feeling stronger … especially in the midriff,” and more flexible.

As published in Hollywood Reporter Former gymnast Nonna Gleyzer worked with Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal for ‘Nocturnal Animals’ after Tom Ford asked her to train his cast. According to Gyllenhaal “I see the body as a whole: mind, body and spirit,” says Gleyzer. “It’s not only about physical training, but also a neurological, lymphatic and energetic approach. My work is built on keeping the alignment of the body and finding the core issues, such as if a client has an injury.”

Pilates is a powerhouse workout Either way, more and more people are learning how pilates can help enhance their health and well-being. In fact, some experts suggest that one precisely executed session of pilates is worth more than several hours in the gym.
The pilates method was first conceived by Joseph Pilates, who believed that physical health and mental well-being are interrelated. He developed a series of floor routines that demand balance, flexibility, strength, power, agility, and acute mental focus in order to execute the moves correctly, creating a lot of awareness on the connection of the mind and body.
