Garangao goodies fly off the shelves


Qatar will celebrate Garangao tomorrow, the mid-Ramadan children’s festival, with hypermarkets and retail outlets reporting brisk business for the event.
Garangao is a traditional children’s festival unique to the Gulf and is celebrated on the 14th night of Ramadan every year.
Wearing traditional clothes, children go around the neighbourhoods and sing “give us what God gives you, have a house in Makkah for your generosity” and will knock on the doors to collect sweets, money, nuts and gifts.
“We set up a special Garangao section on Thursday and over the weekend close to half of the goods are sold out,” an official of a hypermarket near Airport Road said yesterday. [Read More]
