Doha: Qatar has won first place at the 2010 UAE Open Figure Skating Championship recently held at the Al-Nasr Leisure Land Ice Rink in Dubai.

The event is one of the most prestigious figure skating events held in the Middle East annually and attracts more than 100 professional figure skating athletes.

The participating teams from the GCC region this year included the Ice Skating Center Al-Khuwair (Oman), Sharjah Ladies Club (Sharjah, UAE), Al Ain Mall Ice Rink (Al Ain, UAE), Al-Nasr Leisure Land (Dubai, UAE), and Gondolania Ice Arena (Doha, Qatar).

The Qatar team that travelled to the UAE to compete at this event included Maryam Al Ansari, Rachell Ann Dunn, and Katrina Mayo also a coach. These athletes were accompanied by their coaches JP Tanchico and Gino Lodronio.

The Gondolania figure skating team managed to beat off tough competition at the UAE event and win 2 first prizes and 1 second prize. Maryam Al-Ansari competed in the freestyle3 level and won the 1st place in Artistic, 2nd place in Footwork, and 3rd place in Technical.[Read More]
