PM launches model agency for pvt firms


DOHA: The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister H E Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem bin Jabor Al Thani yesterday launched Enterprise Qatar, the country’s ambitious entity intended to foster Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

The inaugural event was attended by the Minister of State of International Cooperation and Acting Minister of Ministry of Business and Trade (MBT) H E Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah, the Secretary-General, General Secretariat for Development Planning H E Dr Ibrahim Al Ibrahim, the Director Public-Private Partnership (PPP) at MBT Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al Thani and other officials.

The Premier said that Enterprise Qatar is the institutional umbrella that would support SMEs by promoting its ability to launch new business ventures as part of the government’s initiative adopted in 2008 to support SMEs.

“The government has earmarked QR2bn for this initiative with the aim of fostering Qatari SMEs, which will constitute the growth engine of sustainable development in the country. The goal behind establishing Enterprise Qatar is to create a favourable environment for the sustainable growth and prosperity of SMEs. We aspire to see Qatari companies with state-of-the-art technology competing worldwide and fostering a knowledge-based economy in Qatar,” the Prime Minister said.

The Premier called upon entrepreneurs and businessmen to take advantage of the unique initiative that provides an opportunity to gain access to support and expertise needed to achieve long-term business goals. [Read More]
