British Council exhibition showcases ‘architecture of culture’


DOHA: British Council’s exhibition ‘My Father’s House’ looks at architecture in a unique perspective exploring how its evolution brought about by inevitable modernisation shapes a country’s culture and identity.

“The built environment has changed dramatically in Qatar in recent years and it continues to do so,” observed Simon Winetroube, Director, British Council Qatar, adding iconic buildings such as the Museum of Islamic Art, Fanar, Souq Waqif and the future Heart of Doha project convey powerful messages about the country.

The plethora of still and moving images being showcased at the weeks-long exhibition at the Waqif Art Centre is a testament how structures matter not only in the country’s economy and culture but in the lives of ordinary people.
