DOHA: The final day events to be showcased by the Qatar National Day celebration committee on the Corniche would be a perfect blend of traditional grandeur and modern excitement.
The country’s National Anthem will signal the start of the traditional grand parade along the Corniche in the morning. After a recitation from the Holy Qura’an, 24 traditional dhows will sail into Corniche Bay with the accompaniment of traditional Qatari sea songs.
In the evening, classic cars will go on display on the Corniche near Giant Oryx. Children and young people will join the event in traditional Qatari costumes. The Sheraton Park will witness a series of traditional children’s games.
The evening events would give a modern touch to the celebrations when the high-tech gigantic projectors of 7,000KB will project lights onto Doha skyline to mesmerise the audience. Dozens of projector sets have been installed on the Doha waterfront that would beam lights across the Corniche in different hue creating a psychedelic spectacle.
Talking to the media yesterday, the State National Day Organizing Committee (SNDOC) member Lieutenant Abdullah Khalifa Al Muftah said the National Day Parade has been rescheduled to be held at 8am on December 18. The parade would start from the Al Rumaila Park.
The traffic department has made elaborate arrangements to make the event a grand success. Lieutenant Ali Salman Al Mohannadi said vehicular traffic would be banned on the entire stretch of Corniche from 6am to 9am on December 18. Corniche would be again closed for traffic from 4 pm to 11 pm.
The public can park their vehicles at ten different parking zones around the Corniche. The organizing committee would introduce shuttle services from these ten points to the Corniche. The shuttle service will begin from 1pm through 11pm.
Six different parking areas have been designated at the Barzan area. Sheraton Hotel area is another place where the public can park their vehicles. Two separate area have been designated for parking at the Souq Waqif area, said Lieutenant Ayed Mohammed Al Kaabi, member, Internal Security Force, Ministry of Interior.
Thousands of visitors are visiting the Darb-a-Saai Camp where the series of traditional events have been taking place since last Saturday. Daab-a-Saai features events including camel parades and dressage competitions; poetry recitals, photographic exhibitions, local handicrafts, local handicrafts, traditional food festivals and a spectacular Masseela horse race.
