HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor al-Thani yesterday met the Ambassadors of the Netherlands, the Philippines, Uruguay and South Korea to Qatar, Johannes Cornelius Maria, Crescente R Relacion, Jose Luis Remedi and Chang See-Jeong, respectively.
The ambassadors called on the prime minister on the occasion of their assumption of duty in Qatar. The premier wished the new ambassadors success in their missions and further development and prosperity to the relations between Qatar and their countries. The meeting was attended by Director of HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister’s Office HE Abdullah bin Eid al-Sulaiti and foreign ministry officials.
Culture minister holds talks with Cuban envoy
HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz al-Kuwari yesterday met the Cuban Ambassador accredited to Qatar Armanda Vergara Buene. Talks dealt with aspects of cultural co-operation between the two countries and ways of enhancing them.
Qatar’s envoy meets mayor of Larnaca
Qatar’s Ambassador to Cyprus Mubarak bin Abdurrahman al-Nasr yesterday met the Mayor of Larnaca Andreas Moyseos in Nicosia. Talks during the meeting dealt with the Qatari-Cypriot relations and ways of enhancing them in all fields.
Minister attends banquet hosted by French FM
French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner has hosted a dinner banquet at Foreign Ministry headquarters in Paris in honour of HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah al-Mahmoud, who is currently on a working visit to Paris along with the UN-AU Joint Mediator Djbiril Bassole.
Discussions dealt with efforts being made to achieve peace in Darfur.
Indian boat crash victim to be buried in Qatar
The body of an Indian fisherman who was killed in a boat accident will be buried in Qatar, his friend said yesterday. Chinnadurai (19) was killed along with two of his colleagues, Selvam and Arasu Gopalaswamy, when the speedboat in which they were travelling collided with a fishing vessel on October 8, about 55 nautical miles off Doha coast. A senior member of Indian fishermen community in Qatar said he had been told by the victim’s relatives to make arrangements for his burial in Qatar. “The body of the victim was highly decomposed as it was recovered by Qatar Coastguards after ten days,” he said. Meanwhile, arrangements are being made to send the bodies of the other two fishermen, who were killed along with Chinnadurai, to India.
